Rangers sign Mahle to 2-year contract reportedly worth $22M
The Texas Rangers signed right-hander Tyler Mahle to a two-year contract, the team announced Thursday.
Mahle's deal is worth $22 million, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. He's set to earn $5.5 million in 2024 and $16.5 million in 2025, a source told MLB.com's Kennedi Landry.
The 29-year-old isn't expected to pitch until later in the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last May.
Mahle made nine starts for the Minnesota Twins after they acquired him from the Cincinnati Reds prior to the 2022 trade deadline. He authored a 3.64 ERA and 1.05 WHIP during those outings. His best season came in 2021 with the Reds when he posted a 13-6 record with a 3.75 ERA and 210 strikeouts in 33 starts.
The addition gives the Rangers another experienced arm for a starting rotation that could include some combination of Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Gray, Dane Dunning and Andrew Heaney when fully healthy.
