Report: Cubs, Hoskins in contact about free-agent deal
The Chicago Cubs and first baseman Rhys Hoskins' representatives are staying connected about a potential free-agent deal, sources told MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
The two sides have discussed one-year and multi-year contracts, Morosi adds.
Hoskins would fit a Cubs squad that projects to start the unproven Matt Mervis at first base following Cody Bellinger's departure into free agency.
The 30-year-old Hoskins missed the entire 2023 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.
Prior to last season, Hoskins posted a .242/.353/.492 slash line with 148 home runs and 405 RBIs in six seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Cubs are expected to be a big player in free agency after narrowly missing the postseason last campaign and hiring a new manager in Craig Counsell.
