Cardinals sign Gibson to 1-year, $12M deal

The St. Louis Cardinals continue to add pieces to their starting rotation.

St. Louis agreed to a one-year, $12-million deal with free-agent right-hander Kyle Gibson, the team announced. The agreement includes a 2025 team option.

The 36-year-old spent last season with the Baltimore Orioles, logging 192 innings across 32 starts with 15 wins and a 4.73 ERA. He was also a big part of the division-winning Orioles' clubhouse.

Signing with the Cardinals is somewhat of a return home for the University of Missouri grad, who pitched his college ball for the Tigers before the Minnesota Twins selected him 22nd overall in the 2009 draft.

Gibson is the second starter to join the Cardinals in the last two days. Lance Lynn inked a one-year, $11-million deal Monday.

The pair joins a Cardinals starting rotation that already includes Miles Mikolas and Steven Matz. Matthew Liberatore and Zack Thompson are also options to start in St. Louis.

Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said there are "more moves to come" after the Gibson and Lynn signings, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
