Major League Baseball's offseason is off to a rocky start.
The annual GM meetings in Scottsdale, Arizona, were shut down Wednesday after numerous people in attendance became ill, reports Sports Illustrated's Stephanie Apstein.
More than 30 of the 300 officials attending the event at the Omni Resort and Spa came down with a stomach ailment that appeared to be food poisoning, causing MLB officials to request all food servers wear masks and gloves.
Attendees were also barred from serving themselves and a memo was sent to teams asking them to report illnesses so the league could track the outbreak.
The event ended abruptly after more people developed symptoms Wednesday, causing organizers to believe the ailment was tied to a virus instead of a foodborne illness, Apstein adds.
The GM meetings were scheduled to end Thursday.
