The Texas Rangers will have two of their top arms return for the American League Championship Series.

Right-handed starters Max Scherzer and Jon Gray will be on the roster for the series against the Houston Astros, the Rangers announced Sunday.

Scherzer has been sidelined since Sept. 12 due to a shoulder strain. The three-time Cy Young winner posted a 4-2 record with a 3.20 ERA and 10.6 K/9 after the Rangers acquired him before the trade deadline from the New York Mets.

Gray has yet to pitch in the postseason this year after landing on the injured list near the end of the regular season with forearm tightness. The 31-year-old made 29 regular-season starts for the Rangers, posting a 4.12 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 157 1/3 innings.

Scherzer is likely to start either Game 3 or 4 of the ALCS at Globe Life Field, but manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that he might be available out of the bullpen in Game 1, according to Fox Sports' Deesha Thosar.

The Rangers plan to use Gray in a relief role "for the most part," Bochy said, per Sportsnet's Hazel Mae.

Pitchers Brock Burke and Matt Bush were left off the roster to make room for Scherzer and Gray.
