Blue Jays' Kikuchi says cramp result of getting just 11 hours of sleep
Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Yusei Kikuchi believes that a muscle cramp that forced him to leave Tuesday's game might have been caused by getting just 11 hours of sleep Monday night instead of his usual 13 or 14, according to Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic.
Kikuchi added he typically goes to bed around 11 p.m. and wakes up at 1 p.m.
The 32-year-old left in the sixth inning of an eventual 7-1 victory over the New York Yankees due to a left upper trap muscle cramp. He said he should be fine to make his next start.
Kikuchi still picked up the win after allowing just one run on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts over five innings.
The Japanese hurler owns a 3.74 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 170 strikeouts over 158 2/3 innings amid a career season in 2023.
