Texas Rangers ace Max Scherzer left in the sixth inning of Tuesday's game with a right triceps spasm following a pitch to Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette, the Rangers announced, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

Scherzer unsuccessfully tried to throw a few warmup pitches before being removed.

The 39-year-old will have an MRI on Wednesday, per Grant.

Scherzer didn't allow a run on three hits with two strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings before the injury. Texas ended up winning the game 6-3.

The Rangers acquired the three-time Cy Young winner at the trade deadline to bolster their playoff chances. He posted a 3.63 ERA with 11.6 K/9 over seven starts heading into Tuesday's contest against the Blue Jays, the second of a big four-game series with potential postseason implications.
