Astros' Valdez records no-hitter vs. Guardians on 93 pitches

Houston Astros left-hander Framber Valdez threw a no-hitter against the Cleveland Guardians in a 2-0 win Tuesday.

Valdez, who needed just 93 total pitches for the game, is the first left-hander in Astros history to throw a no-hitter. He also faced the minimum of 27 batters, collecting seven strikeouts while walking one.

The 29-year-old's no-no is the club's fifth since 2019.

Martin Maldonado, who caught Valdez, has been the backstop for three different no-hitters for Houston. He was also behind the plate for a combined no-no in 2019 and 2022.

Valdez's performance comes on the same day the Astros brought back three-time Cy Young winner Justin Verlander in a trade with the New York Mets.

There have been two other no-hitters this season outside of Valdez. New York Yankees right-hander Domingo German pitched a perfect game, while Matt Manning, Alex Lange, and Jason Foley recorded a combined effort for the Detroit Tigers.
