The New York Yankees are leaning toward adding players ahead of the trade deadline, a source told The Athletic's Brendan Kuty.
The Yankees reportedly identified Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk as a target to address left field. The 31-year-old is performing well and is the kind of low-cost acquisition the team is looking for.
Grichuk owns a .307/.364/.478 slash line and a 1.028 OPS against left-handed pitching. The Toronto Blue Jays are paying about half of the approximately $3 million that he has remaining on his 2023 salary, according to Kuty.
The Yankees have also been connected to the Chicago Cubs' Cody Bellinger and Dylan Carlson of the St. Louis Cardinals.
New York, which is 2.5 games back of the American League's final wild-card spot, has a day off Thursday before it begins a three-game series against the first-place Baltimore Orioles.
Star slugger Aaron Judge is expected to return for the series opener Friday.
