The Miami Marlins optioned right-hander Eury Perez to Double-A, the club announced Friday.

The Marlins want to limit the 20-year-old phenom's workload for a potential return to the majors later this season, according to Craig Mish of the Miami Herald, who adds that there's no definitive timetable for when that could happen.

Perez owns a 2.36 ERA with 1.08 WHIP and 61 strikeouts over 53 1/3 innings (11 starts) this season.

Miami has already set a franchise record with 51 wins before the All-Star break amid a surprising season. The club currently holds the top wild-card spot in the National League.

Meanwhile, left-hander Robert Garcia and right-hander Sean Reynolds were promoted, while right-hander Jeff Lindgren was designated for assignment.
