Despite leaving Josh Donaldson out of the lineup against the Texas Rangers for a third straight game, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is trying to find a way to spark his struggling third baseman.
"He's going to play a lot," Boone said Sunday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. "I know there's a lot in there. … I just want to get him going because I know he can be a key figure for us."
The manager also said he had a long one-on-one conversation with Donaldson before the contest.
"Just him and I talking. I'm sorry it spilled over. … We're good. We're on the same page," Boone told the media after showing up late to his pregame availability.
Following New York's 5-3 victory over the Rangers, Donaldson said he's prepared to play any role to help the team win and remains on the same page as Boone, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner.
The three-time All-Star has just six hits over his last 54 plate appearances. He's gone deep six times with a .602 OPS over 21 games so far during his age-37 campaign. The 2015 AL MVP is making $21 million in 2023, the last guaranteed year of his contract.
