The New York Mets have sent scouts to look at Cincinnati Reds closer Alexis Diaz, a source told Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The two teams haven't had any trade talks yet, according to Heyman, who adds the Reds would want young pitching in a package.
Diaz, brother of injured Mets star closer Edwin Diaz, is putting together a sensational sophomore campaign. The 26-year-old owns a 1.48 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 17.0 K/9 over 24 1/3 innings. He's also gone 14-for-14 in save opportunities.
New York would likely need to give up a haul of prospects for Diaz since he's under team control through 2027.
The Mets' bullpen has amassed the fifth-lowest fWAR in baseball heading into Thursday's action. David Robertson, 38, has authored a 1.75 ERA with 10 saves, but the club lacks elite high-leverage arms.
