Roberts: Dodgers have no answer to Syndergaard's struggles
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Noah Syndergaard struggled once again during his team's 8-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday, and the organization can't figure out how to fix the former All-Star.
"Obviously, I don't think we can sustain this pace of performance," manager Dave Roberts said, according to the Los Angeles Times' Jack Harris.
Roberts added, "We're trying to turn over all the stones and find an answer, but we can't come up with an answer."
Syndergaard allowed six earned runs, seven hits, and two home runs in three innings against the Reds. It was his third consecutive start giving up five or more earned runs and his fifth this season.
Roberts said the 30-year-old has been dealing with a blister and broke a fingernail during Wednesday's game.
The Dodgers placed Syndergaard on the 15-day injured list with a blister ahead of Thursday's series finale with the Reds, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.
"He's going through it. He's been going through it all year. It's not from a lack of effort, preparation, or care, but it's just not working," Robert said, according to SportsNet LA.
Roberts added the organization plans to sit down with Syndergaard to figure out the next steps.
The Dodgers signed the Texas native to a one-year, $13-million deal in the offseason after he went 10-10 with a 3.94 ERA in 134 2/3 innings for the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies in 2022.
