Orioles lose Mullins to injury: 'Last thing you want to see'
The Baltimore Orioles lost one of their best players when outfielder Cedric Mullins exited with a right abductor/groin strain during Monday's loss to the Cleveland Guardians.
A timeline for Mullins' return is yet to be determined. The club placed the center fielder on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
"It's the last thing you want to see," manager Brandon Hyde told The Baltimore Sun's Nathan Ruiz on Monday.
Baltimore signed veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks in a corresponding move.
Mullins pulled into first base slowly in the eighth inning while attempting to beat out a ground ball. He exited the game with a trainer by his side.
The 2021 All-Star was in the midst of a solid campaign, entering Monday hitting .266/.353/.484 with 23 extra-base hits, 39 RBIs, and 13 steals. The Orioles own the third-best record in the American League.
"Cedric is one of the biggest pieces of this team and one of the biggest drivers of us winning this year and this winning season," teammate Ryan McKenna told Ruiz. "It's going to be a loss for our team."
