Chicago White Sox designated hitter Eloy Jimenez could miss at least four-to-six weeks after undergoing an appendectomy on Saturday, the team announced.

The 26-year-old slugger was hospitalized after experiencing abdominal pain on Friday that continued to bother him into Saturday morning.

“He had some abdominal pain last night and it intensified throughout the night," White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said, according to The Associated Press.

Jimenez was in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak for the White Sox before going on the shelf. He's slashed .258/.321/.423 with four home runs and 15 RBIs this season.

The White Sox are off to a rough start, sitting fourth in the AL Central with an 11-23 record.
