Matt Harvey is done with major-league baseball.
The former New York Mets ace announced his retirement Friday after nine seasons.
Harvey, who became a 2013 All-Star with the Mets and finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting, had a special message to the New York faithful.
"To the fans, most importantly the NY Mets fans: You made a dream come true for me," Harvey wrote on Instagram. "You are forever embedded in my heart. Goodbye, baseball. And thank you."
The right-hander led the team to a World Series appearance in 2015. However, injuries and off-field issues plagued his career after a sensational start.
The 34-year-old recorded a 4.42 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 867 strikeouts over 966 1/3 innings (172 starts) with the Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Royals, and Baltimore Orioles.
