The Texas Rangers signed five players to minor-league contracts on Friday, including former New York Yankees outfielder Clint Frazier and left-hander Danny Duffy, the team announced.
Frazier appeared in 19 games for the Chicago Cubs last season. The 28-year-old struggled to a .216/.356/.297 slash line with zero home runs and one RBI at the major-league level and didn't fare much better at Triple-A, posting a .585 OPS in 66 games for Iowa.
The former top prospect was expected to be a big part of the Yankees' outfield configuration before injuries - including concussions - derailed his career. New York released him in November 2021.
Like Frazier, Duffy has been hampered by injuries in recent years. The former Kansas City Royals ace and 2015 World Series winner appeared in seven minor-league games for affiliates of the Los Angeles Dodgers last season, authoring a 5.40 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 6 2/3 innings.
The southpaw's strongest campaign was in 2016 when he went 12-3 with a 3.51 ERA and 9.4 K/9 in 179 2/3 innings.
In addition to Frazier and Duffy, the Rangers inked outfielder Travis Jankowski and right-handers Ian Kennedy and Reyes Moronta to minor-league deals.
