The San Diego Padres and veteran designated hitter Nelson Cruz agreed to a one-year contract worth $1 million, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Cruz is coming off one of the worst seasons of his 18-year career during his age-41 campaign with the Washington Nationals. He went deep 10 times with a .651 OPS over 124 games in 2022.

However, the seven-time All-Star hit 32 homers with 86 RBIs and an .832 OPS over a combined 140 contests between the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays in 2021.

Cruz, 42, will also serve as the general manager of the Dominican Republic team during the 2023 World Baseball Classic in March.
