The Washington Nationals and first baseman Dominic Smith have agreed to a one-year contract, the club announced Wednesday.
The pact is worth $2 million with an additional $2 million in performance bonuses, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.
Smith struggled mightily last season, slashing .194/.276/.284 without hitting a homer over 58 games with the New York Mets. He openly expressed frustration to the media in May about a lack of playing time.
The 27-year-old enjoyed his best run in the majors between 2019 and 2020, going deep 21 times with a .937 OPS over a combined 139 contests for the Mets.
