The New York Yankees appear to have a backup plan if Aaron Judge bolts in free agency.
The Yankees are believed to be doing their due diligence on outfielder Brandon Nimmo, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Harrison Bader is projected to be the team's starting center fielder in 2023. However, the club would have a massive hole to fill in right field if Judge leaves.
Nimmo, who accrued a career-high 5.4 fWAR in 2022, is considered the best outfielder available on the open market outside of the reigning AL MVP. The 29-year-old Nimmo hit 16 homers with an .800 OPS over 151 games for the New York Mets in 2022.
The Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, and Mets are also reportedly in on Nimmo.
