Report: Dodgers, former All-Star Shelby Miller agree to 1-year deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers and former All-Star right-hander Shelby Miller agreed to a major-league contract pending a physical, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

It's a one-year deal worth $1.5 million in guaranteed money, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel reports. Miller will also get performance bonuses.

Miller only pitched in four big-league contests last season with the San Francisco Giants, striking out 14 batters while posting a 6.43 ERA in seven innings. He spent the majority of 2022 in Triple-A, where he posted a 2.87 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 69 strikeouts, 21 walks, and 12 saves across 43 total appearances (one start) split between the Giants' and New York Yankees' top affiliates.

The 32-year-old appeared destined for stardom as a starting pitcher during his first three seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves, which included his lone All-Star berth in 2015. But his career's been marred by injuries and inconsistency since then. Miller hasn't thrown over 100 big-league innings in a season since 2016 and has made just 36 appearances in the majors over the past four years.

Los Angeles is likely hoping Miller can rediscover his old form as a member of its bullpen. The Dodgers have a track record of helping veteran pitchers turn their careers around, most recently seen last year when Tyler Anderson produced a career-best All-Star campaign.

The 2009 first-round pick owns a lifetime 38-58 record with a 4.21 ERA, 4.18 FIP, and 644 strikeouts across parts of 10 big-league seasons with seven teams.
