Report: Dodgers meeting with Verlander
The Los Angeles Dodgers are meeting with right-hander Justin Verlander on Monday, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
The free-agent ace would be a fit for the Dodgers as the club prefers short-term deals with a large average annual value, notes Heyman.
Los Angeles currently features a rotation that includes Clayton Kershaw, Julio Urias, Tony Gonsolin, and Dustin May. However, All-Star left-hander Tyler Anderson bolted in free agency to sign with the Los Angeles Angels.
Houston Astros owner Jim Crane said in mid-November that Verlander wants a pact similar to Max Scherzer's three-year, $130-million contract inked with the New York Mets last offseason.
The Astros want to re-sign the three-time Cy Young winner, while the New York Yankees and New York Mets are reportedly interested in adding the 39-year-old. The Atlanta Braves are another club connected to the star hurler, reports Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.
Verlander went 18-4 with an MLB-best 1.75 ERA in 2022 en route to helping Houston win the World Series.
