Clevinger posted a 7-7 record with a 4.33 ERA and a career-low 7.2 K/9 in 114 1/3 innings for the San Diego Padres last season after missing the entire 2021 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery and a knee injury.
The 31-year-old returns to the American League Central after spending the first four-and-a-half seasons of his career with Cleveland, authoring a 3.20 ERA and 10 K/9 in 523 1/3 innings.
Chicago starters combined to finish sixth in FIP and seventh in ERA among AL teams, but the team finished 81-81 and missed the playoffs.
