The Detroit Tigers are interested in signing All-Star catcher Willson Contreras, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris knows Contreras from their time with the Chicago Cubs, notes Morosi.
Contreras, who's the top backstop available on the open market, went deep 22 times with an .815 OPS in 113 games for the Cubs in 2022. The 30-year-old has spent his entire seven-year career with Chicago, winning a World Series in 2016.
Detroit's catchers combined to post 1.1 fWAR last season, which placed 18th in the majors. Meanwhile, Contreras accrued a career-best 3.3 fWAR on his way to a third selection to the Midsummer Classic.
