Adam Wainwright's journey in St. Louis will last a little while longer.

The veteran right-hander is returning for an 18th season with the St. Louis Cardinals, the team announced.

Wainwright confirmed the 2023 campaign will be the last of his long and successful career.

"Yes, this will be the last one. But everyone relax, let me go out and win," Wainwright told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold.

The terms of a new deal haven't been revealed.

"We feel like there's something left in the tank," president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Benjamin Hochman.

Wainwright hinted 2022 could be his final season last January, saying, "I would be willing to say that it's almost certainly my last year, but I'm not gonna go write that in stone."

The 41-year-old continued to pitch well this past season, authoring a 3.71 ERA and 3.66 FIP in 191 2/3 innings.

The three-time All-Star owns 195 career wins in 2,567 1/3 innings, all with the Cardinals.

Wainwright's longtime teammates Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols both announced they would retire following the 2022 campaign.
