Marlins hire Skip Schumaker as manager
The Miami Marlins hired Skip Schumaker to be their new manager, the club announced Tuesday.
Schumaker was the St. Louis Cardinals' bench coach in 2022. He worked in the San Diego Padres organization in several coaching roles before joining the Cardinals.
"Delivering a winning, sustainable culture with the expectation of getting into the postseason is the next step for this organization and South Florida - and I can't wait to get started," Schumaker said in a press release.
The 42-year-old has never managed in the majors or minors. However, he did play for 11 years with the Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Cincinnati Reds between 2005 and 2015.
Miami has been looking for a new skipper since parting ways with longtime manager Don Mattingly at the end of the regular season.
