Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Bailey Falter and San Diego Padres right-hander Mike Clevinger failed to escape the first inning of their starts in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Saturday.
Falter got two outs but was removed after allowing four earned runs on three hits with a walk. Clevinger gave up three earned runs in the bottom half of the inning without recording an out.
Connor Brogdon and Nick Martinez replaced Falter and Clevinger, respectively.
This is the second time in postseason history that neither starter made it out of the first inning, according to MLB.com's Sarah Langs.
The last time it happened was in Game 4 of the 1932 World Series when Johnny Allen of the New York Yankees and Guy Bush of the Chicago Cubs couldn't make it to the second frame.
Clevinger is also the 10th pitcher in postseason history to exit a start without recording an out.
