Yankees leave Chapman off ALDS roster, fine him for missing workout
Things are not going well for Aroldis Chapman.
The New York Yankees will leave the former closer off the roster for the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians, manager Aaron Boone said, according to The Athletic's Lindsey Adler.
General manager Brian Cashman revealed Chapman was also fined after failing to attend a mandatory workout Friday, according to the New York Times' James Wagner.
"There's been questions about whether (Chapman) is all-in or not," Cashman said, according to NJ.com's Brendan Kuty.
Aroldis Chapman will not be on the postseason roster. He was not at the team workout on Friday and the excuse was not acceptable, per Aaron Boone. So the team has asked him to stay away. He’s in Miami.

Boone said he was "disappointed" with the pitcher, who had a chance of making the playoff roster despite struggling throughout the 2022 campaign.
The skipper hasn't ruled out Chapman for the remainder of the postseason should the Yankees advance past the ALDS, according to YES Network's Meredith Marakovits.
Aroldis Chapman going AWOL for the postseason was “shocking” but not “surprising,” Brian Cashman said.

It's been a disastrous season for the seven-time All-Star, who lost the closer's job at the end of May.
His 4.46 ERA, 4.57 FIP, and 1.43 WHIP are all career worsts, and he's only managed to pitch 36 1/3 innings in his last season before hitting free agency.
