Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Shane Baz will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the entirety of the 2023 campaign, manager Kevin Cash confirmed Saturday, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Baz hasn't pitched since mid-July because of an elbow strain.
The 23-year-old former top prospect authored a 5.00 ERA with 30 strikeouts over 27 innings (six starts) this season.
Meanwhile, Brandon Lowe will miss the rest of this season due to a back issue.
The former All-Star struggled in 2022 due to injuries, hitting eight homers with a .691 OPS over 65 games. Lowe slashed .247/.340/.523 with 39 round-trippers and 99 RBIs over 149 contests last season.
