St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright and catcher Yadier Molina made history on Wednesday when the duo made their 325th start together as a battery.

Wainwright fired a first-pitch strike past Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers to set the new mark in front of a home crowd at Busch Stadium.

The tandem broke the record previously set by Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan of the Detroit Tigers from 1963-75.

"I don't think anyone will break that record," Wainwright said of his and Yadi's new mark, according to The Associated Press.

Wainwright and Molina made their first start together on April 6, 2007. The pair has been an integral part of the Cardinals since their debuts, making 13 combined All-Star appearances and helping the franchise win the World Series in 2006.

Molina was also a member of the Cardinals' 2011 World Series club, with Wainwright missing that season after having Tommy John surgery.

The 40-year-old Molina will retire at the end of the season, while the 41-year-old Wainwright hasn't made a decision about his career following the 2022 campaign.
