Montgomery 'turned the page' with Cardinals after trade from Yankees
St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Jordan Montgomery has been one of the most impactful trade-deadline pickups, and after another sparkling start Friday, the 29-year-old poked fun at the team that dealt him.
"What trade?" Montgomery said with a laugh, according to the New York Post's Ted Holmlund. "I don't remember that. I turned the page. I'm excited to be here, and every five days, I want to go out and win."
The Cardinals acquired Montgomery from the New York Yankees on Aug. 2 for outfielder Harrison Bader and a player to be named later or cash considerations. Bader has yet to appear in a game for the Yankees as he recovers from a bout of plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
Montgomery has helped solidify the Cardinals' rotation and picked up his fifth win in six starts since the trade after shutting out the Chicago Cubs over six innings on Friday.
"I'm just executing a lot of pitches and throwing three pitches for strikes," Montgomery said. "So, I'm going to keep doing that."
Montgomery's new teammates are thrilled to have the hurler in the fold as he's become an invaluable addition to the Cardinals.
"I just can't believe he's here. It's been awesome," Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado said. "We're so fortunate to have him."
Montgomery owns a 5-0 record with a 1.47 ERA, 32 strikeouts, and just six walks across 36 2/3 innings as a Cardinal.
