Dodgers acquire Chris Martin from Cubs

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired right-handed reliever Chris Martin from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for utility player Zach McKinstry.

Martin has struck out 40 batters through 31 1/3 innings of work this season, possessing a 4.31 ERA and 3.02 FIP. He signed a one-year, $2.5-million contract with the Cubs this past winter.

The 36-year-old right-hander was part of the Atlanta Braves squad that captured the 2021 World Series, registering one save over 46 relief appearances that campaign.

Martin will bolster a Dodgers bullpen that ranks fifth in the majors, according to FanGraphs WAR.

McKinstry brings versatility to the Cubs, having appeared at second base, third base, shortstop, and both corner outfield positions over 10 games in 2022. But he's struggled offensively, going 1-for-11 with one homer and three walks.

Over parts of three seasons, McKinstry possesses a .669 OPS in 74 games played.

The Dodgers sit atop the NL West with a 67-32 record.
