Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson broke his right clavicle after being hit by a foul ball during Friday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the team announced.

The timetable for his return is to be determined. Stephenson said postgame that surgery isn't necessary at this point, according to the Enquirer's Bobby Nightengale.

The Reds placed Stephenson on the 10-day injured list Saturday. The club recalled catcher Mark Kolozsvary from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding roster move.

Stephenson was struck on the shoulder by a foul ball in the first inning but opted to stay in the game until he was unable to throw a ball to first base following a dribbler in front of home plate from Paul Goldschmidt.

The 25-year-old backstop was appearing in just his eighth game since coming off the injured list in early July following a one-month absence due to a fractured right thumb.

Stephenson has played well when healthy, slashing .319/.372/.482 with 35 RBIs in 49 games.
