Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg will make his season debut Thursday against the Miami Marlins, manager Dave Martinez said Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Jessica Camerato.
Strasburg, 33, underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome last July. He's thrown just 26 2/3 innings for the Nationals since inking a seven-year, $245-million contract in December 2019.
Martinez isn't putting any restrictions on Strasburg's outing and believes a three-start rehab assignment has him ready to pitch.
"I'm not going to put any limitations on him. We'll see how far we can take him," Martinez said, according to Camerato. "We'll keep a close eye on him but this is one of the reasons why we wanted him to go through what he did and to make sure that he's fully ready."
Strasburg is a three-time All-Star and won World Series MVP in 2019 en route to Washington's first title in franchise history.
The hurler owns a career 113-61 record with a 3.21 ERA, 3.01 FIP, and 1,718 strikeouts in 12 seasons.
