Report: Yankees cut prospect for allegedly stealing equipment, scamming fans
The New York Yankees parted ways with outfield prospect Jake Sanford after the 2019 third-round draft choice allegedly stole equipment from teammates and scammed fans, a source told NJ.com's Brendan Kuty.
Sanford "hounded teammates for their equipment to sell online" and occasionally stole it from them, Kuty reported.
Two fans also reportedly accused Sanford of accepting money in advance in exchange for memorabilia he never delivered.
In one instance, Sanford accepted $75 from a fan for a pair of signed baseball gloves and "ghosted" the person after getting "nasty" with them online, per Kuty.
Sanford reportedly scammed another fan out of $600.
The Yankees officially cut ties with the 24-year-old on May 12. He has apparently since signed with the Ottawa Titans of the Frontier League.
