5 Mets pitchers combine for no-hitter vs. Phillies
Five New York Mets pitchers combined to no-hit the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night at Citi Field.
Starter Tylor Megill was followed by relievers Drew Smith, Joely Rodriguez, Seth Lugo, and Edwin Diaz.
Diaz struck out the side in the ninth inning to earn the save, finishing the Mets' second no-hitter in the club's 61-year history by getting J.T. Realmuto swinging.

New York won the contest 3-0.
It's the 17th combined no-hitter in MLB history and the first to be thrown by five pitchers, according to NoNoHitters.com. Additionally, the Mets' 159 total pitches are the most on record for any no-hitter, per ESPN Stats & Info.

"There was just such a small margin of error with those guys. You're a walk and a blast from having a tie game very quickly. … I think our guys were more about trying to win a game," manager Buck Showalter said, per SNY.
No-hitters have long been the Mets' white whale, despite the franchise's legendary history of pitching excellence. It took the Mets 50 years to get their first no-no, courtesy of Johan Santana in 2012.
The Phillies were no-hit for the 20th time in their history, moving them into a tie with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the all-time most.
