Riley Greene's chances of making the Detroit Tigers' Opening Day roster disappeared on Saturday when manager A.J. Hinch revealed the young outfielder fractured his right foot, according to MLive's Evan Woodberry.
Hinch didn't give an exact timetable for Greene's return but said the 21-year-old would be out for a while. Greene also won't require surgery.
More info on Riley Greene’s fractured right foot, per source: The fracture is on the bottom part of his foot, which could mean a slightly shorter recovery period. Preliminary timetable is 6-8 weeks until he’s able to play again. Likely will have to rehab in the minors for a bit.

MLB's No. 5-ranked prospect entered spring training with a solid chance of making the big-league roster and was playing well before he fouled a ball off his foot on Friday against the New York Yankees.
Greene's spring training slash line was .429/.500/1.048 with two home runs, three doubles, and two triples in 11 games before the injury.
The Tigers were already short-handed in center field due to Derek Hill's hamstring injury. Victor Reyes remains an option in center for Detroit.
