Report: D-Backs, Marte agree to 5-year, $76M extension
The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a five-year, $76-million extension with infielder/outfielder Ketel Marte, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Zach Buchanan.
The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a signing bonus and begins in 2023. It guarantees Marte's options for the 2023 and 2024 campaigns from his previous contract, but with different salaries, Rosenthal and Buchanan report.
Correction: New money is ~$51M. First to say agreement was close: @ByRobertMurray. Also on it: @Jonheyman, @Mikedeportes https://t.co/Qk8pSF1Z9h

Marte was scheduled to earn $8.4 million in 2021 before reportedly agreeing to the extension.
The 28-year-old slashed .318/.377/.532 with 14 home runs, 29 doubles, and 50 RBIs in 90 games last season.
He's been a big part of the D-Backs' roster since they acquired him in a 2016 trade from the Seattle Mariners, slashing .295/.358/.495 with 67 homers and 236 RBIs in five seasons.
Marte's best campaign came in 2019 when he was an All-Star and finished fourth in National League MVP voting thanks to a .981 OPS with 32 round-trippers, 92 RBIs, 36 doubles, and 10 steals.
The Dominican is also a versatile defender, having played four different positions for the D-Backs throughout his tenure with the club. He mostly appeared in center field last season.
