The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded outfielder Luke Raley to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-handed minor-league reliever Tanner Dodson, the team announced Friday.
Raley, 27, made the majors for the first time in his career last year, going 12-for-66 with a pair of homers over 33 games. The lefty-hitting outfielder performed well in Triple-A before that, hitting .297/.384/.553 with 26 home runs and 12 steals over 105 games in two seasons spent between the Dodgers' and Minnesota Twins' systems.
Raley joins a Rays outfield that currently includes Kevin Kiermaier, Austin Meadows, Randy Arozarena, Manuel Margot, and Brett Phillips. However, Kiermaier and Meadows have recently found their names in trade rumors.
Dodson, a 24-year-old switch-hitter, has also played outfield during his time in the minors. He authored a 3.20 ERA over 56 1/3 innings last year, starting the campaign at High-A before earning a promotion to Double-A.
While he hit more earlier in his career, Dodson was held to just 30 plate appearances last year and went 1-for-25 with four walks and 14 strikeouts.
