Max Scherzer believes New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is giving the team a good chance to capture a World Series.
"He looks at this like he wants to win a championship, and he's going to do whatever it takes to win. You don't hear that from owners too often these days," Scherzer said Wednesday after his new three-year, $130-million contract with New York became official, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.

The three-time Cy Young winner agreed to the monster deal - which includes a record $43.33-million average annual value - on Monday after leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency.

Meanwhile, Cohen took a subtle jab at critics who suggested free agents didn't want to play for the franchise.
"Whoever had that thought, I guess they were wrong," the 65-year-old billionaire said.
Cohen criticized pitcher Steven Matz's agent after the left-hander spurned New York to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals in late November.
The Mets added Scherzer, Starling Marte, Eduardo Escobar, and Mark Canha since the public spat for a combined $254.5 million.
