Report: Rangers, Corey Seager agree to 10-year, $325M deal

The Texas Rangers and shortstop Corey Seager agreed to a 10-year, $325-million contract, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Seager will receive a $5-million signing bonus as part of the deal, which includes a limited no-trade clause but doesn't have any opt-outs, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

The 27-year-old has been one of baseball's top shortstops since debuting in 2015, slashing .297/.367/.504 with 104 home runs, 164 doubles, and 364 RBIs in seven seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The North Carolina native was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2016, he's won two Silver Sluggers, and he was named both NLCS and World Series MVP in 2020 when he helped the Dodgers win their first championship since 1988. He's also a two-time All-Star.

The reported addition of Seager is the latest of several big Rangers signings over the past two days. Texas agreed to deals with infielder Marcus Semien, right-hander Jon Gray, and outfielder Kole Calhoun on Sunday.

The Rangers have spent a reported $561.2 million on the four players, with $500 million going to Seager and Semien.

The upgrades should help the Rangers improve upon their last-place 2021 result in the American League West when the club finished 60-102.

Multiple teams were linked to Seager this offseason, including the Dodgers and New York Yankees.

The Dodgers wanted to retain both the shortstop and pitcher Max Scherzer - who reportedly signed with the New York Mets earlier on Monday - but they apparently weren't willing to match the Rangers' and Mets' offers, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Los Angeles is expected to use Trea Turner at shortstop and Gavin Lux at second base next season.
