Report: Marlins agree to 4-year, $53M deal with Garcia

The Miami Marlins and free-agent outfielder Avisail Garcia have reached an agreement on a four-year, $53-million contract, reports ESPN's Jeff Passan.

It's the largest free-agent contract given out by the Marlins under the ownership group of Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman, according to Sports Grid's Craig Mish.

Garcia spent the past two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. He hit a career-high 29 home runs in 2021, along with a .262/.330/.490 slash line.

The one-time All-Star fills a need for the Marlins in the outfield while providing their lineup with a middle-of-the-order presence. Miami's offense finished 27th in wRC+ and 28th in homers last season.

As it currently stands, the Marlins' starting outfield should consist of Garcia, Jesus Sanchez, and Bryan De La Cruz.

The 30-year-old Garcia broke into the majors in 2012 with the Detroit Tigers. He's also had stints with the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays over the course of his 10-year career.

Miami's front office has been busy, as the team also reportedly agreed to a five-year, $56-million contract extension with pitcher Sandy Alcantara on Sunday.

The Marlins are expected to continue spending after the Garcia and Alcantara deals and appear to be in on impact players, according to Mish.
