Free-agent ace Max Scherzer is expected to choose his next team before the current collective bargaining agreement expires at 11:59 p.m. ET on Dec. 1, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants, and New York Mets are reportedly among the teams looking to sign the three-time Cy Young winner.

The Mets are aggressively pursuing Scherzer but will likely target Kevin Gausman if Scherzer prefers to stay in California, reports Heyman. Scherzer, 37, limited the Washington Nationals to California-based teams when they were working to trade him ahead of the deadline.

Scherzer authored a 2.46 ERA with 236 strikeouts over 179 1/3 innings split between the Nationals and Dodgers last season. The eight-time All-Star went 7-0 with a 1.98 ERA in 11 starts for L.A. down the stretch.
