Report: Blue Jays, Gausman have discussed multi-year deal
The Toronto Blue Jays have been linked to free-agent right-hander Kevin Gausman this offseason, and the two sides have discussed a multi-year deal in recent days, sources told MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Toronto is seeking starters for its rotation after American League Cy Young winner Robbie Ray and fellow left-hander Steven Matz became free agents this offseason. Matz signed a four-year contract with the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday.
Gausman has reportedly been connected to multiple teams this winter, including the Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, and Seattle Mariners.
The 30-year-old hurler had an outstanding campaign with the Giants last season, earning his first All-Star appearance and finishing sixth in National League Cy Young voting. In 33 starts, Gausman posted a 14-6 record with a 2.81 ERA, 3.00 FIP, and 10.6 strikeouts per nine over 192 innings.
He was also fantastic for the Giants in 2020, striking out a career-high 11.9 hitters per nine while authoring a 3.62 ERA and 3.09 FIP.
