Noah Syndergaard had a tough time leaving the New York Mets in free agency.
"It was the hardest decision of my life, but I definitely think I made the right decision," Syndergaard said Friday when asked about his choice to sign with the Los Angeles Angels, according to Sam Blum of The Athletic.
The right-hander said the Angels were the first club to talk to him after he didn't have much contact with the Mets about a new contract for months.
Syndergaard added that he had a few multi-year offers from other teams but the average annual values were lower than the $18.4-million qualifying offer he rejected from the Mets.
The 29-year-old believes he's exactly what the Angels need to contend.
"You think of the Angels, you think of the booming offense they have. … Some of their missing pieces, I think, was starting pitching," Syndergaard said.
Syndergaard owns a 3.32 ERA with 1.16 WHIP and 9.7 K/9 over his six-year major-league career with the Mets.
