Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. is joining the Seattle Mariners' partnership group, the club announced Monday.

Griffey, who played with the Mariners for 13 seasons, is the first former player in team history to become a partner.

"As I said in my Hall of Fame speech, I'm very proud to be a Seattle Mariner," Griffey said in a statement. "I'm excited for this incredible opportunity to join (chairman) John (Stanton) and the rest of the Mariners' partnership group. This is a dream come true because of the relationship I've always had with the team, its fans, and the city of Seattle.

"I view this as another way to continue to give back to an organization and community that has always supported me and my family. I'm looking forward to continuing to contribute to this organization's success in any way possible."

Griffey hit a combined 630 home runs while playing for the Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago White Sox over a 22-year span. The former 13-time All-Star is widely considered one of the best players in MLB history.

The 51-year-old is also a member of the Seattle Sounders' ownership group.
