Yankees' Cashman: 'The bottom line is shortstop is an area of need'

The New York Yankees are going to be shopping for a starting shortstop during the offseason.

"The bottom line is shortstop is an area of need, and (if) it's going to be, we have to address it," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday, according to the Washington Post's Chelsea Janes.

Gleyber Torres started 104 games at short for New York this campaign. However, the two-time All-Star struggled offensively and defensively, accruing a .697 OPS with nine homers and accounting for 19 errors - 18 of which came while playing the position.

"I think Gleyber (Torres) is best served at second base in reality," Cashman said, per NJ.com's Brendan Kuty.

The Yankees will have plenty of options in free agency with a star-studded group of shortstops heading to the open market. Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, Trevor Story, Marcus Semien, and Javy Baez are all expected to be looking for new contracts over the winter.
