Taillon to have ankle surgery, LeMahieu undergoes hernia procedure
Taillon is expected to be out for five months following the procedure.
The 29-year-old re-aggravated an ankle injury in late September after landing on the injured list earlier in the month with a tendon issue. Taillon didn't give up a run over 3 1/3 innings in his next start against the Tampa Bay Rays, a victory that locked up a playoff spot for the Yankees in the last game of the regular season.
Taillon posted a 4.30 ERA with 140 strikeouts over 144 1/3 innings (29 starts) in his first season with New York.
The Yankees also expect infielder DJ LeMahieu to be ready for spring training after he underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia, general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday. The recovery time is eight weeks. LeMahieu played through the injury at the end of the season.
The three-time All-Star and two-time batting champ struggled in his first season after inking a six-year, $90-million contract. He slashed .268/.349/.362 with 10 home runs in 150 games.
