The Houston Astros plan to make a run at re-signing shortstop Carlos Correa, owner Jim Crane said on Thursday, according to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.

The 27-year-old was involved in negotiations with the Astros during the offseason but cut off talks before the campaign to focus on the year.

Correa will become a free agent at the end of the season and has shown a willingness to stick with the organization that drafted him first overall in 2012.

"This is my home," he said Wednesday ahead of the Astros' American League Division Series matchup with the Chicago White Sox, according to The Associated Press. "But it’s not up to me."

He added, "When they take you with the first pick overall, I feel like all the pressure should be on you to make this organization better. Through my time here I have delivered, and I've done good things for this organization. Winning a championship was up there with that, but also representing this team the right way off the field, that makes me proud."

Correa, who's won a World Series with the team, has been terrific for the Astros in his walk year, helping them win a division title with a .279/.366/.485 slash line and 26 home runs, 34 doubles, and 92 RBIs.

He's also played exceptional defense. His 21 defensive runs saved ranks first among all MLB players, according to FanGraphs.

The Detroit Tigers, who are managed by Correa's old skipper A.J. Hinch, are also reportedly interested in signing the native of Puerto Rico.
