Syndergaard to make 1st start in nearly 2 years vs. Marlins

Nearly two years after his last MLB appearance, Noah Syndergaard will start for the New York Mets in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Miami Marlins, the team announced, according to Tim Healey of Newsday Sports.

The Mets designated Chance Sisco for assignment to make room for Syndergaard on the 40-man roster, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post.

Syndergaard hasn't appeared in a big-league game since September 2019. He missed the entire 2020 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

The right-hander looked good in a pair of rehab appearances last week with Triple-A Syracuse, posting two strikeouts over two scoreless innings.

Syndergaard is set to hit free agency this offseason. The All-Star hurler owns a 47-30 record and a 3.31 ERA across five seasons in the Big Apple.

New York acquired Syndergaard from the Toronto Blue Jays nine years ago as part of the R.A. Dickey blockbuster deal.
